If you want to establish yourself in Panama through a solid personal investment, the Economic Solvency Visa can provide an orderly path toward permanent residency. The key is to structure the investment correctly and prepare the file before committing funds.
What is the Economic Solvency Visa?
The Economic Solvency Visa, known as PPT-SEP, begins with a 2-year provisional permit. Once the applicable requirements are met, permanent residency may be requested. The base amount is US$300,000 and may be structured through a fixed-term deposit, real estate or a combination of both under Articles 192–194 of Executive Decree 320 of 2008.
The investment is not a sunk cost: the funds remain yours and a deposit may generate interest according to the selected banking product. The deposit must be maintained for the required term and cannot be used as collateral.
Choose the structure that fits your assets
The minimum combined investment is US$300,000. Dependents do not reduce the amount; an additional B/.2,000 per dependent is required.
Why consider this route?
This route can suit investors who want to establish themselves without opening an operating company or hiring employees on payroll. It does, however, require the 2-year provisional stage before permanent residency may be requested.
Documentary requirements
Typical documents include a valid passport, civil records, apostilled or legalized police certificates, medical certification, banking evidence when applicable and a commitment to maintain the investment. Requirements vary by profile and should be reviewed before filing.
